To our colleagues

Dear all,

The project “Gate towards the World” is already halfway. It has been 3 months since our new colleagues, international colleagues, arrived in Baia Mare. It’s been 3 months of knowing each other, learning how to work together, 3 months of activities, trips, team-buildings, meetings, new experiences.

The whole American International School of Transylvania team would like to congratulate Benjamin, Chad, Christine, Luis and Monica for their hard work, for their involvement and for all the energy they are bringing in the middle of the children everyday. We would also like to thank them for these 3 successful months and we hope that the next 3 will be just as good. We are glad to have you part of our team.

Keep up the good work and keep enjoying your life in Baia Mare,

AIST team

What we’ve learned about Baia Mare so far

Baia Mare is the municipal (capital) of its county Maramures, which makes it much than its twin, Satu Mare, with whom Baia Mare competes for many things. If you ask the Baia Marians they definitely have the best city of the two.

Baia Mare has a lot of government offices; one national, one regional and a city hall. This is also the way the police are divided. Hopefully foreigners will not be expected to know to which place to go in the romanian bureaucracy. It’s good to have a mentor.

In Baia Mare there are plenty of good doctors and pharmacies, but only half of the hospital is in function, so you should watch out while being in the traffic. You never know when you cross someone with a highlander kind of attitude.

In Baia Mare there are great supermarkets, some of them even have their own bridges.

The city is high up in the mountains so winter becomes really cold. Fortunately this gives the baia marians the opportunity to go skiing and snowboarding.

Being a foreigner in Baia Mare is not a problem the people are very nice especially if you try to speak a little Romanian. It seems like everyone has plenty of time to talk and it is really nice.

I’m looking very much forward to spend the next half year here in Baia Mare.
